    To make people laugh is a precious gift and comedy must often stray to the uncomfortable edges of life. It is easy to knock a fellow down and be cynical and smugly politically correct about his offerings but where were these bystanders when Manning was putting his head above the parapets of life?     I absolutely agree. Laughter and tears are what makes us human and Bernard was certainly the latter. Foul-mouthed? Yes. Course? Yes. Funny? Without doubt. And Ist-ist with it.

    He supported a shit-poor football team, mind.
