As I Was Saying

Eighteen months plus is quite a gap between posts and not something to be explained away by blogger’s block.

The reality is that there was quite a bit going on in my life in 2008 and I simply lost the will to write. But I had always meant to return to these pages — I just didn’t get round to it until now.

What prompted it was an email from Blogger telling me that they would no longer support FTP publishing and that any existing blogs would have to be moved to a Blogger-managed URL.

This I did and the old version of Shooting Parrots is still available at Blogspot, at least for the time being. However, I also decided to try to get my head round WordPress and so here is the new version at http://shootingparrots.co.uk.

I dropped lucky with the appropriate theme which I found at WordPress Themebase, although I have tweaked it a bit. Getting the site up and running wasn’t as straight forward as the documentation suggests, mainly my fault for not setting up the database correctly, but that was fixed by the very helpful people at Strato. This German company hosts my sites and operate an efficient and free helpline.

So here I am again. I will perhaps get round to updating my pages on events since July 2008. Meanwhile, it’s just good to be back.
