There was an interview tonight on FiveLive with sixty year old, Stuart Ashby. His claim to fame is that he had had a pint of beer in all 700 pubs featured in the Good Pub Guide over the last five years. But even more impressive, since 1984 he has visited some 17,000 hostelries’ Peter Allen: “Wow, 17,000 pubs eh? Why do you do it?” Stuart Ashby: (slight pause) “Well… I like beer.” Daily Mail story

Currently reading An Utterly Exasperated History of Modern Britain by John O’Farrell, an entertaining and informative reminder of history that I actually lived through. I’m up to 1966 and the general lack of interest and jingoistic euphoria until the final at Wembley: Now the excitement really started to spread.
