I was browsing the Amazon website to see what odd mix of items it thinks I should consider spending my money on. This included Italian shoes and premium quality headphones for some reason, but the thing that caught my eye was the Amazon Dash.
These little gizmos are branded to a particular product and the idea is that when you notice that you’ve run out of that product you simply press the button on the Dash and it will order a resupply through some technological voodoo.
The range of products you can connect through a Dash is quite idiosyncratic. Cat food features prominently for some reason alongside various brands of washing powder, but for some, there is an obvious inbuilt failing.
Take Andrex loo roll for example, as featured above. Even guaranteed next day delivery is going to leave you in an indelicate position for the best part of a day. Then there is the Durex Dash Button. Finding yourself in need of a condom is rather an immediate desire that even an Amazon delivery drone is unlikely to satisfy.
I suppose this is yet another strand in Amazon’s strategy for retail world domination but I for one will be sticking to the tried and tested shopping list.
