Coal Not Dole

It is 20 years since the infamous miners’ strike that brought so much grfief and suffering to so many families. Even in that relatively short space of time, the world has changed and the power of the trade unions has been shattered for ever. Reading the BBC’s feature on the strike brought it all back. How one man and one woman on opposite sides broke the working class movement – Arthur Scargill and Margaret Thatcher. As one person put it, “The most heart shattering and upsetting reason over the strike was that both sides were right.”
