Mini Life

Old MiniIt should be a maudlin programme, but I can’t resist Brief Lives on Radio Five. The deaths of people, some you’ve heard and some you haven’t, and what they have achieved is uplifting in its own way.

Take tonight and Jack Daniels. For me, that means whisky, but this Jack was the engineer behind the first car I ever drove (Morris Minor) and the first I ever owned (the Mini.) The former was my dad’s and the latter’s reg plate was TTO 414 and cost me all of £50, which included racing seats and belts. And at a time when the rule of thumb for the cost of a new car was £1 per cc engine size.

For both of which I’m grateful to have driven. Hat-tip in heaven Jack.
