Today was the 150th birthday of the Daily Telegraph. I know you won’t believe this, but it started life as a radical newspaper. Good cartoons though.

    That article has corrected a misconception I'd had. I was under the impression that Queen Victoria, Empress of India, ruler of 1/5th of the world, had never left these shores save for the Isle of Wight. Only there's a picture of the Queen visiting Boulougne. My whole belief system has been turned upside down!

    Although I've just noticed that the caption says:
    Napoleon III welcoming Queen Victoria to Boulogne on August 18, 1955. It was the first state visit to France by an English monarch since 1431

    No bad for someone who'd been dead for 54years…
