A Figo of the Player he once was

One of the things I was looking forward to was watching Luis Figo, a great player — skill beyond belief — and the opening match against Greece must be his perfect stage. Except it wasn’t.

Pain in Spain

When I was a kid, ‘spanish‘ was a bit of liquorice. The hard sort that made your jaw ache and turned your teeth black. Then I as I went to school, I learned more about the Armada, Toledo steel etc. Proud and noble? Nah! Another weak and decadent power easily led away from a fight!
